Iced Chocolate Latte | This 3-ingredient iced chocolate latte is creamy and rich in dark chocolate flavour, perfect for both coffee and chocolate lovers. Using a milk frother ensures the most silky smooth chocolate latte.

This iced chocolate latte is the perfect summer drink- refreshing, subtly sweet, and chocolate-infused. It’s perfect for both coffee lovers and chocolate lovers.
You only need 3 ingredients for this iced latte recipe. Coffee, chocolate, and milk or cream. I recommend using dark chocolate for a deeper, richer flavour.
What kind of coffee should I use for iced lattes?
The great thing about iced coffee is its versatility. You can use whatever kind of hot coffee you normally make, whether it’s instant, espresso, brewed coffee, or my favourite, pour-over coffee.
The coffee needs to be hot enough to prevent the chocolate from solidifying when mixing, so cold brew should not be used.
If you’re not a regular coffee drinker, here is a coffee guide.
Coffee Type | Method/Equipment | Time | Strength |
Espresso | Espresso Machine | 5 minutes | 5/5, very strong |
French Press | Immersion | 10 minutes | 3/5 |
Pour Over | Drip | 5 minutes | customizable |
Machine Brewed | Coffee Machine | 5-10 minutes (varies) | 2/5, generally weak |
Instant | Dissolved in hot water | <1 minute | customizable |
Moka Pot | Stove top | 5-10 minutes | 4/5 |
So, how much coffee do you need to make an iced latte? Lattes typically use strong coffee and are made with a ratio of 1:3, coffee to milk.
About 1/2 cup of brewed, pour-over, or French press coffee.
Or, 1 heaping teaspoon of instant coffee dissolved in about 1/2 cup of hot water.
Or, 1-2 shots of espresso, depending on how strong you like your coffee.
How to add chocolate to coffee
Have you ever added melted chocolate to cold milk or coffee and ended up with a flaky, separated mixture? This is because chocolate contains cocoa butter, a type of fat that solidifies when cold.
To successfully mix coffee and melted chocolate together, you must use hot coffee, ideally between 140°F-160°F (60°C-70°C).
Using a milk frother or whisk to mix the coffee and melted chocolate yields a perfect, silky smooth mixture.
Once the chocolate and coffee are emulsified, the chocolate is diluted and stabilized, so it won’t solidify once poured over ice. The key to blending the two is heat.
How to sweeten coffee
This chocolate iced latte recipe is versatile and can be customized to your sweetness preference.
In this recipe, I like the subtle sweetness that the dark chocolate adds, but if you’re using a high percentage dark chocolate, or just like your coffee sweet, dissolve 1-3 teaspoons of sugar in the hot coffee.
Liquid sweetener is great for adding to coffee, as you don’t have to dissolve it. Try maple syrup or a coffee syrup.

- 1 milk frother or whisk
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dark chocolate, melted
- ½ cup hot, strong coffee or espresso
- coffee cream or milk
- sugar or sweetener, optional
- cocoa powder, optional
Instructions
- Prepare hot, strong coffee however you normally make it, or make espresso. The coffee must be hot enough to melt the chocolate. At least 140°F-160°F (60°C-70°C). The coffee should be quite strong as lattes are normally a 1:3 ratio of coffee to milk.
